The Stanfords Shopping Bus

Last week the Stanfords team had the pleasure of delivering a second wheelchair accessible minibus to our returning clients at Jewish Blind and Disabled.

SCW’s Paul Dedman handed over the new keys to Jewish Blind and Disabled.

Their new minibus is based on a Mercedes Sprinter L3H2 and can facilitate up to 11 passengers plus driver, or 3 wheelchairs. The vehicle also features our exclusive fold-out low-entry side step, an internal tail lift, custom-built storage compartments for shopping and more…

Who are Jewish Blind and Disabled?

Jewish Blind and Disabled are a charity who provide housing and support for Jewish people over the age of 18 with physical disabilities and / or vision impairment. The charity has seven unique developments with a number of specially adapted mobility apartments designed to allow tenants to continue doing the everyday tasks that are key to living independently in their own home.

Between the seven developments, Jewish Blind and Disabled will now have a second SCW wheelchair accessible minibus available to take tenants on regular trips to the local supermarket and Kosher shops. The charity’s latest Stanfords shopping bus has been cutsom-built to meet their specific requirements and includes two large shopping storage boxes in the rear, as well as a front luggage pen, with additional space to hang shopping bags. This new minibus will play a huge role in ensuring that tenants are able to retain their independence by having the chance to shop and cook for themselves.

The Conversion

We worked closely with Jewish Blind and Disabled to ensure that their new bespoke Sprinter met all of their criteria. As the minibus would be primarily used as the shopping bus, it was important that we included some custom-built storage areas to transport the tenant’s shopping bags. Take a look at the full specification below.

  • 11 x passenger seats plus driver

  • Facility to transport up to 3 x wheelchairs
